The main cemetary for the town. Instead of the standard burial, coffins are placed above ground and covered with rocks. There isn't enough soil to dig a grave, and even if there were, the ground doesn't thaw (tundra permafrost!). |

These adorable little puppies came running to greet us as we went for a walk. There are a lot of dogs in town, mostly Husky-type dogs. They were traditionally used to pull dogsleds, and they still use them for that occasionally, and as guard dogs (having something warning you that various wild animals are around while you're out on the land - always a useful thing to have!) |
